Dental X-rays have come a long way. Todays dental X-rays are safer, faster, more comfortable and more informative than the X-rays of years past. Digital X-rays, one of the latest and most advanced dental technologies, produce high-quality images of your teeth that can be viewed instantly by you and your dentist on a LCD monitor. Digital X-rays reduce radiation by up to 90% and provide exceptional diagnostic information to ensure that potential problems are caught in their earliest stages. Dr. Adams uses a Panorex X-ray, which takes single picture of all your teeth and surrounding bones, providing a complete picture of your teeth and gums.
Intraoral photography is another alternative to traditional dental X-rays. With intraoral photography, problems such as cavities, fractures and discolorations in the teeth, as well as gum disease, are captured through clear and sharp images. The camera also allows you to see what the dentist sees on a monitor right in front of you, making it easier for you to understand and appreciate any potential problems or risks to your oral health.
Utilizing a special fluorescent light, the DIAGNOdent device can help your dentist find “hidden” cavities before they become a major problem. While improving the overall oral health of Americans by hardening tooth enamel, fluoridation has also ironically made early cavities harder to detect, since incipient cavities that once began on the tooth’s surface have now tend to start below the surface. By improving cavity detection and noninvasive examination of teeth without repeated X-ray exposure, the DIAGNOdent allows your dentist to find minor problems and treat them before they turn into major pains.
Many patients fear getting a shot in the gums before dental procedures are performed. The DentalVibe is an innovative dental instrument that takes away the pain of oral injections and doesn’t require multiple shots for anesthesia. The DentalVibe uses proprietary Vibra Pulse technology, which blocks the pain that’s felt when a shot is administered. Instead of pain, the patient feels a soothing massage-like vibration in the gums. A few seconds later, the entire area becomes numb. With the DentalVibe, you can leave your fear of needles at home.
The use of lasers in dentistry possesses several advantages over the pneumatic dental drill. Aside from being able to replace the traditional drill in some cases and helping to reduce patient anxiety by eliminating its annoying sound, laser dentistry offers other tangible benefits. Safe and effective, laser dentistry is generally less painful for patients and requires no or less local anesthesia and sedation dentistry. Additionally, any discomfort following a procedure is minimized and healing times tend to be shorter with laser dentistry than with older traditional methods. With laser dentistry, patients can expect greater comfort and less time spent in the dentist’s chair.
Originally developed for military purposes, advanced nickel-titanium alloy has found a place in dentistry. Flexible nickel-titanium rotary files are now used to increase the quality of root canals, allowing a dentist or endodontist to accurately follow the shape of the root canal itself. Using a passive, non-cutting tip, nickel-titanium rotary files gently remove the infected inner tooth (the pulp) and generally result in more precise and less painful root canals.
